Try These 5 Family Fun Night Ideas

Winter brings cold temperatures and snow which can be fun, but that also means we’ll be stuck indoors for the next few months. While it’s nice to cozy up at home with your loved ones, we know dinner time ideas and family activities can grow tired after a while. This winter, we challenge our guests to spice up their family dinner nights with games, movies, farm-fresh food and more! Use this quality time to make memories together and set traditions that will last much longer than the snow.

To allow for more family time and less time spent prepping for dinner, try Bob Evan’s new Free Delivery Fridays*, now available in the Bob Evans mobile app. Every Friday, leave the cooking to us and start your night with farm-fresh food – delivered for free! Pick from one of our Dinner Bell Plates or find a Family Meal To-Go that suits the cravings of the whole family, and don’t forget to try one of our new items, such as the Blue Ribbon Bacon appetizer. Trust us—Fridays taste better farm-fresh!

Now that dinner is covered, here are five ways you can spice up your family dinner nights and escape the winter blues with fun, indoor activities:

1. Movie Night

Simple and easy— cue up your favorite movie or have a few options for an evening marathon. Make it feel extra special by bringing in extra pillows and blankets, making movie tickets out of index cards and eating dinner by the TV or having a pseudo-concession stand on the kitchen counter with popcorn and candy. Enjoy family-sized versions of your favorites like macaroni and cheese and hand-breaded fried chicken via curbside pickup with Bob Evans.

2. Scavenger Hunt

The hunt is on! Make a list of household items for each player or team to find, hide your items around the house (don’t forget your “golden egg” or grand prize piece), set a time limit for your hunt and get going! Split off in two teams or have every player for themselves and whoever finds the most items (or the “golden egg”) before the time is up gets to pick what’s for dessert! If your choice is freshly-baked pies, we have that covered, too. Guests can choose from everyday classics such as apple, triple berry or a chocolate peanut butter delight made with Reese’s® Peanut Butter Cups.

3. Family History Night

How much do you know about your family’s history? Plan a special family night with relatives or just Mom and Dad to share stories from everyone’s childhood and your favorite past times. Embark down memory lane by giving each family member a turn and considering creating flashcards with questions your kids can ask. Have a farmer in the family? Ask them questions about their job and how they help get farm-fresh food on the table, much like our founder Bob and our farm partners.

4. Puzzle Night

Puzzles can be entertaining and challenging, two great components to any family fun night! Grab the entire family to work together on one puzzle or split into two groups and have a puzzle off – whoever finishes first wins! Order some homestyle soups for carryout from Bob Evans, dig out your puzzles, and get to building! If you’re looking to take your puzzle building to the next level – try choosing puzzles with more pieces each week and see how fast you can put them together!

5. Craft Night

Crafts are a perfect activity for any family night-in and one of our favorite crafts for the winter season is making a snowman and paper snowflakes. If you’re low on supplies, you can upcycle old mail and papers, cardboard or even the to-go bag from your Bob Evans dinner! Just grab some glue, scissors and paint or markers to get started on creating your indoor winter wonderland scene. Tack your finished masterpieces on the fridge, tape them on the wall or hang them from the ceiling so you all can enjoy your art throughout the winter.
