How To Turn Your Holiday Pies Into Creative Treats

When it comes to Christmas, there’s no shortage of sweets and treats. Gingerbread men, candy canes and yule logs are all pretty standard.

Down on the Farm, the dessert of choice for the holidays is pumpkin pie. Our classic seasonal treat is hard to resist with its flaky, buttery crust filled with pillow-y soft pumpkin and flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. It’s true what they say in that Christmas carol “Sleigh Ride”:

There's a happy feeling nothing in the world can buyWhen they pass around the coffee and the pumpkin pie

Best of all, freshly-baked pumpkin pie is easy to order and have delivered or ready for curbside pickup from the bakery at your local Bob Evans.

Dessert is a meal where it's ok to play with your food, so we’ve cooked up a few ways to dress up your pie to make it extra special.

Cookie Party!

The great thing about pumpkin pies is they’re blank canvases. With a little imagination, they can be turned into works of art or send a message. One of the easiest ways to add extra flair to your pies is with cookies. Have some extra sugar cookie dough (or just order a few too many cookies with your ready-made Holiday Feast)? Get out your letter cookie cutters and spell out a simple message for your pie-topper.

Did your gingerbread house meet with an earthquake? Use the broken gingerbread to make an abstract mosaic.

Campfire Showstopper

Feeling a little more ambitious? Turn your pumpkin pie into a dinner table centerpiece. The warm pumpkin pie spices inspired us to transform our pie into a tabletop campfire. Pretzel rods make perfect kindling and a frosted sugar cookie is the sizzling fire! If you have a kitchen torch handy, roast marshmallows and serve them with each slice for extra deliciousness!

Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream Sandwich Man

You’ve heard of Santa and Rudolph and Frosty, but have you ever heard the legend of Patrick the Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream Sandwich Man? Patrick is a pumpkin pie topped with vanilla ice cream and another pumpkin pie and then topped again with whipped cream and caramel sauce (incredibly easy to make — just heat butter, brown sugar, heavy cream and a dash of vanilla until thickened).

Patrick came to life a few years ago and is now a financial adviser in Cleveland (go Cavs!). He is very friendly, LOVES CHRISTMAS and disappears fast once on the table.

Pumpkin Pie Pudding Jars!

Sometimes you want to try something a little different than just the plain ol' slice of pie. With your freshly-baked Bob Evans pumpkin pie, you can build yourself a pie in a jar!

Tear off pieces of pie crust and drop them into the bottom of a clean Mason jar. Then scoop out the pie filling and spoon that on top of the crust layer, pressing it down as you go. We like adding a vanilla pudding layer next, but this could be whipped cream or ice cream. Top it off with crushed cookies for a garnish. These make great gifts for friends and neighbors – just tie a ribbon around the jar and you’re all set!

Order Ready-Made Pies

We love the way the house smells when our pies are in the oven, but sometimes there's just not enough time (or energy) to bake. Fortunately, the bakery at Bob Evans has all the freshly-baked pie you’ll need for your holiday season. Place your order online for easy curbside pickup or delivery, decorate and tag us using #bobevans in your pie project pictures!
