Springtime brings warmer weather, greener gardens and plenty of opportunities for family fun. Annual Easter celebrations are part of many springtime traditions complete with colorful baskets full of Easter eggs.
With kids off school, decorating Easter eggs is a fun family activity that lets everyone get creative. Even if you don't have all the traditional dye kits available, there are plenty of ways to color and decorate Easter eggs at home.
While you're preparing your eggs, you can also prepare your meal by ordering ahead for takeout or delivery of family dinner or an entire homestyle feast.

Using What You Have To Color Eggs
Store-bought kits make dying Easter eggs easy, but did you know that you probably have everything you need to dye eggs already in your pantry? All you need is vinegar, hot water and food dye. Mix together 1 cup of hot water, 1 tablespoon of vinegar and about 20 drops of food dye in a coffee mug or plastic cup. Drop in hard boiled eggs for about 5 minutes. (Note: for lighter color, take your eggs out earlier; for deeper color, leave your eggs in longer.) Beet juice, coffee and onion skins can be added to your vinegar and hot water for natural egg dye.
Get Creative With Egg-cellent Designs
Your designs are limited to your imagination. Use rubber bands for a cool striped effect. Dip your eggs in halfway for a color-blocked look. Paint your eggs with watercolors for more artisitic looking eggs. Use stickers and markers to personalize your eggs.
